Great recommendation; thanks.

Here’s my issue: The mount for all of my GoPro enclosures is on the bottom of the enclosure. If the windshield is raked way back, as most are nowadays, how so you mount the GoPro in such a way that the base doesn’t get into the camera’s view? Unless you hang the camera below the mount and if so, how long of arms would I need to buy?

Is that question as clear as mud?

Mount camera upside down and flip the “Up” mode in the settings. (I actually thought of that by myself and looked it up.)

I would suggest this setup if you’re willing to have it permanently secured , and this one if you’d rather be able to move/remove it . Position-wise, you’d want to angle the arm so it’s running horizontal (or as close to horizontal as you can) and have the GoPro hang straight down beneath it all.

I’ll be visiting Beverly Hills / Hollywood next month and I want to be record the cars that I encounter. It’ll be on a Sunday, so there ought to be a few. But it’ll be a rental, so suction mount is the way to go.

Horizontal? The camera is not directly beneath the suction mount? You don’t mean vertical, to you?

Thanks for the 4-1-1.

Nope, horizontal for the main arm. You’re going to use right angles to keep the camera high and out of your field of view to prevent obstruction. As a bad visualization, imagine sitting in a chair. Torso = the suction mount portion, thigh/upper leg = the arm of the mount, lower leg = GoPro. So the suction mount part points down, the camera itself points down, but the arm of the mount between the two goes horizontal.

Got it. Keep it all up out of your field of view, but the higher the better with all of it.

I have almost zero experience with the GoPro, but I’m a quick study. My sense is that 720p ought to be plenty of bandwidth. But how wide would you set it?

Personally I don’t like the distortion around the edges you get with full wide, but standard/narrow can cut off too much. I’d say do a practice run with narrow and one with mid, take a look at them and see what you like.
